I’m writing to share the latest Alice Bliss news.
I’m just back from my book tour which took me to London for the Richard and Judy Book Club (they chose AB for their Summer List which means that AB is in every WH Smith Bookstore in the UK), and up and down the east and west coast of the US. I also had a wonderful time at BEA and at the American Library Association Conference.
The Massachusetts Library Association has chosen Alice Bliss as a “Must-Read” book for 2012. The Waring School in Beverly, MA has chosen Alice Bliss for their all school read (6 – 12th grade) and Rockport High School has Alice Bliss on the summer reading list for all 4 grades.
Here’s what Nancy Olson at Quail Ridge Books wrote in her recent newsletter:
“Alice Bliss is profoundly affecting with its story of how a 15-year-old girl, her family, friends and her town cope with the deployment of her father to Iraq. You’ve got to read this book! Absolutely unforgettable–heartrending–I can’t praise it enough. Trust me on this one.”
I am visiting some wonderful book clubs – if you have a book club, please consider Alice Bliss – and I am still doing events and readings in libraries and bookstores.
And finally, if you are travelling this summer and happen to stop in at a local bookstore or library (which of course I encourage!) would you please ask for Alice Bliss? And spend a moment telling the bookseller why you like the book (if you do?). This kind of word of mouth remains the gold standard and is tremendously helpful.
Thank you so much!
