Setting the Stage for the Next Stage of Alice Bliss

Next week I will welcome composer Jenny Giering and composer/ lyricist Adam Gwon to Gloucester.to begin work on Alice Bliss, the musical.  We have a wonderful commission from Playwrights’ Horizons in NYC. (Playwrights Horizons produced my very first musical, Lucy’s Lapses, written with composer Chris Drobny.)

I’m excited to spend a week kick starting this project with these two amazing artists. We set aside this week way  back in January. Now I’m setting the stage for our work together.

Here’s a little photo essay; a sneak peek at where we’ll be working.

This is my studio/ office, built above the garage behind my house, where no car has ever been parked.

Here’s the inside of the studio, which also serves as overflow guest space.

And here’s Jenny’s keyboard, delivered yesterday by her wonderful dad all the way from Maine. If I’d known how heavy it was I’m not sure I would have sent it up the stairs. But this is going to be a nice place to work, no?

Jenny will have this view when she’s at the keyboard:

And here’s what the view out those doors actually looks like.  That’s the Mill River which is tidal, and Ipswich Bay beyond. We can see all the way to Maine.

I think we’re going to have some fun.
